Mastering the Final Step to Artisan Status
You’ve spent years on the shop floor. You can handle the dolley, lay down a flawless coat of paint, and bring a mangled quarter panel back to life. You’re an artisan in practice—but are you certified?
For serious panelbeaters, the Red Seal qualification isn’t just a piece of paper; it’s the master key to career security, higher earnings, and professional recognition. The final hurdle to achieving this is the official Trade Test.
At Ezy Panelbeaters and Spraypainters, we understand this journey because we live and breathe high standards. That’s why we are proud to confirm that Ezy Panelbeaters and Spraypainters is a subsidiary of PMT Construction and Engineers, which is an accredited Trade Test Centre for Panelbeating.
This means we don’t just talk the talk—we set the national standard.
What is the Panelbeating Trade Test?
The Trade Test is the formal, practical assessment used to determine if you meet the national occupational standards required for a qualified Panelbeater. It’s not about passing a theory exam; it’s about proving your competency under pressure.
The test is designed to assess your practical ability across core repair disciplines, including:
-
Structural Repair: Correct use of measuring systems and aligning damaged chassis/frame components.
-
Welding and Joining: Demonstrating proficiency in various welding techniques (MIG/MAG, spot welding) essential for modern vehicle materials.
-
Panel Replacement: Removing and replacing major components (doors, fenders, roofs) to exact factory specifications.
-
Finishing and Preparation: Achieving the flawless surfaces required before the spray painting stage.
Why PMT Construction and Engineers is Your Ideal Test Partner
As a subsidiary of PMT Construction and Engineers, Ezy Panelbeaters is uniquely positioned to guide you through the process. Our parent company’s accreditation means we operate according to the highest industry standards, ensuring your assessment is fair, thorough, and nationally recognised.
Choosing an accredited centre like PMT means:
-
Tested by Experts: You are assessed by qualified professionals who are actively involved in the industry and understand the real-world demands of modern vehicle repair.
-
Upholding Quality: The assessment is conducted using state-of-the-art equipment and adherence to the latest techniques, ensuring the qualification you earn is relevant today and tomorrow.
-
A Clear Pathway: Whether you come through an apprenticeship or the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) route (see below), we provide clear, structured guidance from application to qualification.
Demystifying the Trade Test Steps
The path to your Red Seal is straightforward when you partner with an accredited centre.
Step 1: Application and Eligibility
Before you can book the test, you must prove eligibility. This is typically achieved through one of two ways:
-
Apprenticeship Route: Completing the required formal training period and securing the necessary sign-offs.
-
ARPL Route (Assessment of Prior Learning): For experienced, uncertified artisans. This involves having your years of practical work experience formally assessed against the required training criteria. PMT Construction and Engineers can guide you through this process.
Step 2: Preparation
While the test is practical, preparation is key. Focus on brushing up on the areas where you might lack daily experience—perhaps specialised welding, or complex measuring techniques. Our team can advise you on common areas of focus.
Step 3: The Assessment Day
The test is a comprehensive, time-bound practical examination. You will be given a specific job card with tasks designed to test your competence in the core areas of panelbeating. You must complete the task accurately, safely, and within the allocated time.
Step 4: Certification
If your work meets the required national standard, you pass! You will be officially certified as a qualified Panelbeater—the ultimate recognition of your skills.
Ready to Go Red Seal?
Your time on the tools deserves a formal qualification. Don’t let years of hard work go unrecognised.
As an accredited Trade Test Centre through PMT Construction and Engineers, we are perfectly positioned to guide you through the application and assessment process.
